Chartreuse V.E.P. Verte – Exceptional Aged Green Liqueur | 700ml / 1L
Chartreuse V.E.P. – Deep, Botanical & Time-Refined
Chartreuse V.E.P. Verte (V.E.P. = Vieillissement Exceptionnellement Prolongé, “Exceptionally Prolonged Aging”) is the elevated expression of the legendary Carthusian herbal liqueur. Built from the same secret recipe of some 130 plants, the V.E.P. expression spends extended time maturing in oak demi-muids so the spirit acquires extra layers of wood, spice and aromatic nuance. At ~54% ABV, this is a powerful, concentrated digestif that rewards slow, contemplative sipping.
Heritage & Rarity
First introduced as a special cuvée in the 1960s, Chartreuse V.E.P. is produced only in very limited quantities. The Carthusian brothers select batches of the green liqueur to continue aging — the result is a rarer, more complex edition prized by collectors and connoisseurs.
Production & 'Vinification' (how it's made)
Unlike wine, Chartreuse is made by macerating and distilling a precise assembly of botanicals. The technical steps are:
- Maceration: the 130 herbs, flowers and plants are macerated in neutral alcohol.
- Distillation: those macerates are distilled to produce multiple alcoholates.
- Blending & Sweetening: the alcoholates are blended and adjusted with distilled honey and sugar syrup (natural color from plants; no artificial coloring).
- Extended oak aging: selected green Chartreuse batches age for many years in oak demi-muids (V.E.P.), developing oak, balsamic and tertiary notes.
Tasting Notes
Intensely herbal and layered — expect prominent anise and mint, lime-like citrus brightness, resinous pine and forest herbs, then an oak-derived warmth and balsamic depth on the finish. The V.E.P. expression is smoother and more integrated than standard Green Chartreuse, with extra length and wood-borne complexity.
Why Buy Chartreuse V.E.P. Verte?
- Extra-aged complexity: V.E.P. aging adds oak, spice and remarkable aromatic depth.
- 130-plant heritage recipe: the same secret, historic formula that defines Chartreuse.
- Collector appeal & rarity: produced in limited batches — highly sought after by enthusiasts.
- Versatile luxury digestif: sips beautifully neat, but also lends extraordinary character to premium cocktails.
- High critical acclaim: top scores from spirits/wine publications underline its exceptional quality.
- Long-term cellarability: the robust herbal spirit and oak maturity mean it keeps and evolves in bottle.
Ideal For
Serious spirits collectors, digestif lovers, high-end bars and anyone who appreciates botanical complexity and slow-aged craft spirits.
