Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche 2019 – Grand Cru Pinot Noir, Vosne-Romanée
La Tâche 2019 – Powerful, Elegant, and Legendary
The 2019 La Tâche Grand Cru from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is widely regarded as one of the vintage’s greatest Pinot Noirs. A single-owner monopole in the famed Vosne-Romanée commune, La Tâche is made from 100% Pinot Noir vines averaging around 50 years old. Critic William Kelley (WA) praised the 2019 as “sublime…full-bodied, deep and concentrated” with a “long, resonant finish.” Just approximately 994 dozen bottles were produced, reflecting DRC’s tiny yields (≈23 hl/ha) and the wine’s ultra-limited status. This intense, richly perfumed Burgundy promises extraordinary depth and decades of aging potential.
Vineyards & Terroir
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s La Tâche Grand Cru is a monopole vineyard in the Côte de Nuits (Vosne-Romanée), planted on steep, limestone-rich slopes above Romanée-Conti and Richebourg. Covering roughly 5–6 hectares, it lies on marl-limestone soils that imbue great minerality and structure. The entire vineyard has been farmed organically (and biodynamically) since the mid-1980s, with yields kept extremely low. In 2019 the harvest (Sept 16–18) yielded only ~23 hl/ha, underscoring La Tâche’s exclusivity and concentration of flavor.
Winemaking & Organic Approach
DRC’s winemaking is famously low-intervention. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in large oak vats with a high proportion (often 100%) of whole clusters. Natural yeasts drive fermentation with very gentle extraction to preserve finesse. The 2019 La Tâche was aged about 18–20 months in 100% new French oak barrels, imparting fine-grained tannins and subtle spice while retaining pure fruit character. No fining or filtration is used. This meticulous approach, combined with organic/biodynamic viticulture, ensures a wine of exceptional purity and terroir expression.
Tasting Notes
Aromas: The 2019 La Tâche is intensely perfumed. The bouquet bursts with ripe black cherry, wild strawberry, and cassis, layered with exotic spice, violet, and rose-petal nuances. Underlying notes of bergamot, clove, and cinnamon add complexity.
Palate: Full-bodied and deeply concentrated, the palate delivers opulent dark fruit tempered by fresh acidity. Silky, velvety tannins wrap around flavors of blackberry, blood orange, and subtle mocha. A mineral backbone and a touch of truffle give depth and length. Critics note its "vibrant, pristinely balanced" profile and explosive length. The finish is astonishingly long, complex, and satisfying – truly benchmark Burgundy.
Why Buy La Tâche 2019?
